The desire to attain motherhood is a basic instinct of every woman. For most it happens naturally, but for some women who are past their prime fertility age and have difficulty in ovulating or those with difficulty in maintaining a regular period will often have to seek the assistance of a fertility clinic to find ways of getting pregnant.
From time memorial society has looked down on women who failed to mother a baby within a few months following her marriage. Little others understand that getting pregnant is a joint effort with her partner or spouse and his ability to produce the sperms in right quantity and quality is of paramount importance as the production of the ovum itself.
There are two main ways of getting pregnant; the natural way in which the couple engages in coitus and the assisted method in which some kind of medical attention is required. Here are the many ways of making it happen; natural and assisted.
· Engage in coitus every day after the monthly menstruation, at least for the next 10 days. The missionary loving making position, with the man on top, is the best way to do it. After the man has ejaculated his semen, lay still on your back with a pillow to support your buttocks for the next 15 minutes to help the sperms flow and meet the mature ovum. This way of getting pregnant should work for most young couple who have no medical problem like diabetes, high blood pressure, or a temporary undesirable condition; a viral fever for example.
· Begetting a baby of a man you know, but can’t meet during fertile period too is possible the natural way. For this you will need the help of a semen bank and a doctor too. In this way of getting pregnant your man will actually have deposited his semen with the semen bank which will be preserved for later use. At the right ovulation time the preserved seminal fluid will be injected into the womb to meet the ripe ovum for pregnancy to happen. It is natural just like the coitus method, but you will need to consider the legal points in your country before you adopt this method.
· Some women have problems with producing a mature ovum, commonly called egg, and if in spite of receiving several shots of hormones under medical supervision are still unable to conceive, and if your mind set would permit, look for someone who would be happy to donate an ovum for you. Doctors in such cases will imitate a conception in the laboratory and then transfer the young embryo into the womb. The rest is all a natural process. The doctor will, in such cases actually conduct many tests before the actual treatment to avoid blood mismatch which can make the pregnancy a little complicated if not properly attended. There are legal angles to this method which need to be sorted out before you venture for this method.
· It is not always the women who are to blame for childlessness. Men too have a fair share of reasons for not being able to get pregnant. The most common shortcomings in the male are: poor ejaculation quantity, low sperm count, motility issues etc. Finding ways of getting pregnant for such couple is not really a difficult job. The doctor will collect a sufficient quantity of the semen and subject it through a process called washing, and then inject it in to the womb. Thereafter the process is like a normal fertilization and the women should be able to deliver a normal child just like any other pregnancy.
· Blocked fallopian tubes, the fine canal that convey the ovum to the womb for fertilization can be major hurdle to getting pregnant. In fact you will never know it until your gynecologist doctor has made a scan. In such cases the doctor will actually be making a kind of moderated IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) that is common these days. In this process the mature egg will actually be removed from the body of the woman and then fertilized using her partner’s sperm and placing them back in the woman for full growth of the fetus. This procedure has some legal angles to consider and may be state controlled. You and your partner may be required to sign some documents to avoid problems at a later stage.
· There are innumerable ways to getting pregnant in different situations that require intense medical attention and procedures; for example an ovum with a hard shell that the sperm cannot crack to penetrate, the inability of the woman to produce any eggs at all, and weak uteruses. Medically assisted procedures are the only way to get pregnant in such cases and can also have legal implications that you will need to consider beforehand.
Whatever ways one chooses for getting pregnant, the experience itself can be invigorating for the women. Wish you a happy motherhood.
