Delivery and pregnancy myths: before getting into the myths let me aware you of one thing, most of these myths do not have any scientific basis.
· Keep Your Pregnancy A Secret: most of the time superstitious family members suggest the pregnant mother to keep the pregnancy a secret till the first trimester as they believe that the exposure of this new before this time-line can invite evil-eye that might cause a miscarriage.
· The Sex Of Your Baby Can Be Determined By You Bell Shape: another myth that no pregnant women ever missed. It says: if your tummy is big and floppy then it is boy and if it is sticking out then it is a girl. In real the size and shape of your belly depend on a number of factors like the position of the baby, fluid amount around the baby and your the physical structure. This is no way related to the sex of your baby.
· Glowing Is The Sign Of A Girl: another gem is glow for a girl and no glow for a boy that means if you start glowing during your pregnancy and look more beautiful that implies you are carrying a girl in you womb. And if the opposite happens then it is a boy. However, according to physicians every pregnant women glow in the second trimester of pregnancy as a result of better circulation and hormonal changes. That means it has not relationship to the sex of your baby.
· Eat For Two: the most common myth every pregnant mother need to hear for sure. As you are carrying another life inside you that means you need to eat double to provide him/her the proper nutrition. Very wrong indeed! Remember the person you are carrying inside is almost equal to a size of seed in the beginning. It is true that you need extra nutrition during pregnancy like calcium, iron etc but need no extra calories until the second trimester. After that you will require only 300 calories extra per day. So unless you want to look like a nine month pregnant even after the delivery, there is no necessity of eating for the two.
· Sleep Position Has Effect On Your Delivery: often pregnant women are suggested to sleep in a particular posture or direction in order to have child of your preferred sex. Yet another scam. The fact is any comfortable sleeping position is fine. Before the first trimester you can even sleep on the belly. As the uterus always rotates to the right direction and can cause pressure on the inferior vena cava it is better to sleep on your back from eight months onward.
· Myths Regarding The Umbilical Cord: among the several myths the most common one says, if the mother put her arms over her head the umbilical cord will wrap around the baby’s neck. Unless the mother stands on her head, no other body movement affects the umbilical cord. When the baby is in the proper head down position the cord is most naturally going to settle around the baby’s neck.
· You Inherit The Delivery Ways From Your Mother: it says- if your mother had a caesarean section you are going to have one as well. According to scientific explanation the delivery state entirely depends on your body structure, position of the baby and you psychological mind set. There is no place or question of hereditary here.
· Myths About Sex During Pregnancy: well your sex life is not outside of this myth list. According to one myth sex will provoke labor which is not true at all. Another myth states that sexual intercourses can result deformity of your baby. If you consult with your physician you will find that there is no problem with having sex until the day of your labor as long as you feel comfortable with it.
So these are some of the very common delivery and pregnancy myths that you will most likely going to hear during your pregnancy period. Do not get intimidated by these myths. If you have any confusion about anything talk to your physician and get rid of all the confusions.
